DLS Fine Arts…where students discover God’s gifts in the arts and use them to His glory!

Dallas Lutheran School's Visual Arts program provides an outlet for students to explore and develop their creativity and expression through the use of visual medias. As a part of the program, students are able to participate and compete in district and state competitions. DLS Art takes pride in using their talents to glorify God and represents the school through their work!

7th Grade ART 1 Quarter

There are no prerequisites for this course. This comprehensive course integrates the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production. While primarily a studio-oriented course, students will be asked to learn and incorporate some basic art concepts into their work. Historical examples are drawn from art around the world as students are encouraged to be aware of the influence of art in society and the influence of society on art.

8th Grade ART 1 Quarter

There are no prerequisites for this course. This comprehensive course integrates the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production. FAA620 Art 1 – credit - 2 units

There are no prerequisites for this course. This comprehensive course integrates the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production. Experiences are sequentially planned, building on previous concepts, and providing learning opportunities that incorporate a variety of media, artistic styles, and historical periods. Students enrolled in this course will engage in discussions of what art is and does; describe, analyze, interpret, and judge artworks; examine art and do art historical research; and work in series to develop their own artistic statement(s) while creating artwork.

FAA630 Advanced Art, Semester 1 – credit - 2 units

Art 1 is a prerequisite for this course. This course reviews the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production with an emphasis on STUDIO PRODUCTION. Experiences designed to give students more advanced opportunities to explore a variety of media, artistic styles, and historical periods. Students enrolled in this course will work through a sequence of advanced projects. All students are encouraged to work in series to develop their own artistic statement(s) while creating artwork.

FAA631 Advanced Art, Semester 2 – credit - 2 units

Art 1 is a prerequisite for this course. This course reviews the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production with an emphasis on STUDIO PRODUCTION. Experiences designed to give students more advanced opportunities to explore a variety of media, artistic styles, and historical periods. Students enrolled in this course will work through a sequence of advanced projects. All students are encouraged to work in series to develop their own artistic statement(s) while creating artwork. 

FAA640 Portfolio Preparation – credit - 2 units

Art 1 is a prerequisite for this course. This course is designed for juniors who plan to pursue art at the college level and therefore need to complete a portfolio of their work before their senior year. Seniors may also take this course to improve their portfolio. This course reviews the areas of art study; aesthetics, art criticism, art history, and studio production with an emphasis on STUDIO PRODUCTION. Students enrolled in this course will select their own media and subjects as they develop a portfolio of their work, which can be used to apply for college entrance as well as scholarships. All students are encouraged to work in series to develop their own artistic statement(s) while creating artwork.
