COURSE 802: Computer 8
Required Grade 8 1 Semester 2 UnitsPrerequisite: None
This course meets the required computer literacy requirements for middle school students. Topics covered include computer terminology, history, careers, crime, keyboarding, research, and basic applications. This class includes hands on laboratory work to teach the students basic uses of the computer.
COURSE 809: Introduction to Computers
Elective Grades 9-12 1 Semester 2 UnitsPrerequisite: None
This survey course in computer science is designed to give a solid background in computer hardware, operating systems, the internet, and a variety of applications software. The student will study the different computer hardware devices (input, processing, and output). They will also be introduced to the Windows operating environment. The internet will be taught as a tool for research and information gathering. The following is a list of the applications that the student will be introduced to: spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), video editing (Microsoft Movie Maker), databases (Microsoft Access), web page design (Microsoft Frontpage / html), programming (karelBasic). The use of the computer in cross-curricular areas and a further study in computers will be possible upon completion of this course.
COURSE 810: Audio and Video Technology
Elective Grades 9-12 1 Semester 2 UnitsPrerequisite: None
This course is an introduction into audio and video editing as well as media transformation and manipulation through applicable software programs. Currently Sony Vegas Movie Studio and Sony Sound Forge applications are used extensively. The student will focus on the skill of manipulating images, audio clips, and video in order to create and render full length video clips that incorporate all of these. It serves as a stand alone sample of a growing field in computer science that serves the movie, music, and television industries.
COURSE 812: Modeling & Animation
Elective Grades 9-12 1 Semester 2 Units
Prerequisite: None
This course is introduction into 3D modeling and animation production through the free open-source program Blender. This course focuses on the skill of modeling simple shapes and organisms, as well as the simple animation of these (i.e. walking, swimming, or running through an environment). It serves as a stand alone rigorous sample of an area in computer science that has become quite popular in movies, commercials, architecture and design as well as gaming.
COURSE 813: Advanced Applications
Elective Grades 10-12 1 Semester 2 Units
Prerequisite: Any of 809, 810, or 812; Instructor Approval
This course is a study into more advanced applications. This course currently is set up as an independent study. This course allows students to improve on advanced skills in many areas. Some areas of study include web page design, graphics software, and networking. Students would have a chance to choose different levels in these applications. The student would also have a chance to do work in other applications if they desire. Applications would be limited to the software that is currently available through the school.
COURSE 820: Programming
Required ADV Grades 9-12 1 Semester 2 Units
Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers, Algebra I
Programming is taught at an introductory level using the Visual Basic language. Students are taught to use programming steps to solve problems. The student will develop event driven programs with fundamental control structures: variables, procedures, decisions, repetition, arrays.
COURSE 827: Yearbook
Elective Grades 10-12 1 Semester 2 UnitsPrerequisite: Instructor Approval
