History

Social Studies at Dallas Lutheran School are designed to promote the students’ curiosity of the world around them and a desire to see the bigger picture. This is achieved by understanding the people, the processes, and a sense of time and place related to the building of civilization. Students gain knowledge of cultural, social, political and economic developments that help to shape our modern world. Students cultivate a greater awareness of their own individual role in society and their potential to contribute to the future.  

SS075 TEXAS HISTORY

This course is intended to tell the stories of people, events, and institutions from the state's earliest civilizations to modern times. As a result, it touches upon and includes all of the social studies disciplines. People's beliefs, the ways they meet their economic needs, the social and political institutions they form, and the culture they transmit from one generation to another are all part of Texas history. So, too, is geography, which tells the story of where events took place and interactions between peoples and places.

SS085  AMERICAN HISTORY - BEGINNINGS TO 1877

This course will give the student an overview of the origins, conflicts, and solutions the United States encountered in its developmental years.

SS510 WORLD HISTORY

A survey of world cultures from 3000 B.C. through 1400 A.D. emphasizing the study of the social, political and economic aspects of various cultures.

SS511 WORLD HISTORY

Students in this course will study the social, economic, and political characteristics of 15-19th centuries, comparing and analyzing how these traits have influenced the makings of the 20th century.

SS520 AMERICAN HISTORY - 1861-1920

This course will cover American History from 1865 to 1928 focusing on the Reconstruction period, government scandals, the Industrial Revolution and the first World War.

SS521 AMERICAN HISTORY - 1920 - PRESENT

A history of the United States from 1928 to the present. This course is designed to help the student understand contemporary United States culture, politics and society and how major events such as the Depression, WWII, and the Cold War have impacted our present lives.

SS530 GEOGRAPHY

A survey and mastery course of world locations including countries, cities, and geographical sites as well as an introduction to the study of the earth's ecosystems.

SS531 GEOGRAPHY

A study of the movement of cultures and people and how they influence one another. This class focuses on the study of the multicultural setting within America.

SS540 AMERICAN GOVERNMENT

An analysis of American Government focusing on the study of American documents, American Foreign Policy, and the importance of government in the lives of United States citizens.

SS541 ECONOMICS

Offering a study of microeconomics, this course works in conjunction with Junior Achievement to facilitate an understanding of the business environment and the consumer. Computer simulation games enhance this class by allowing the student to become a part of the decision making process involved in entrepreneurship and the stock market.

SS560 PSYCHOLOGY

This course will provide the student with an overall concept of psychology, the nature of psychology, human growth, development and behavior, and development of the individual.
