Reach for Success

Reach for Success, Inc. is a company run by Brenda Laurent whose purpose is to provide learning support services for students at DLS and in the surrounding community. Services include tutoring, testing, homework assistance, skills camp, and remediation.

Tutoring:

Students meet with tutors who have been trained in learning styles and study skills at least twice a week. Tutors can assist with homework, organization, and projects. Fees range from $50 to $60 per session.

Testing:

Students are screened for academic strengths and weaknesses. Abilities assessed include reading comprehension, arithmetic, mathematics, problem solving, evaluation, creativity, fine motor skills, and memory. Testing takes about 4 hours. A conference to explain the results and offer suggestions to strengthen all identified weak areas is included in the fee. The fee for testing is $450. DLS students receive a $50 discount.

Homework Assistance:

Selected junior and senior students assist a small group of students with homework after school. Several adults are available to assist the student tutors as needed. Services are offered for students in elementary grades through high school. Students meet Monday through Thursday from 3:30 until 5pm. The fee is $100 a week.

Skills Camp:

A program is designed to address weak areas found during the testing process. Students meet with a tutor one-on-one for 90 minutes. Camp lasts for 4 weeks, Monday through Thursday, beginning after the week of July 4th. The fee for the month is $1200. All materials are included.

Remediation:

A program is designed to address weak areas found during the testing process. Students meet with Mrs. Laurent at least once a week to learn new skills and monitor progress. Additional activities are designed to be completed at home with parent supervision. The goal of remediation is to improve foundational skills so that the student no longer requires tutoring or other support services. The fee for remediation varies.
