Testing

All students who seek admission to DLS are required to take the Nelson-Denny test (9th-12th grade) or the Gates-MacGinitie test (7th-8th) to see if they have the requisite reading skills to succeed at the high school.  In August, all DLS students are given a different version of the same tests to check on reading progress each year.  These scores are reviewed by the curriculum director and the faculty each year to see if any students are in need of tutoring in reading.

In the spring, Middle School students particpate in nationally normed academic assessment.  EXPLORE, a test instrument offered by ACT, yields the first set of college-bound benchmarks and planning data.

All Juniors at DLS are strongly encouraged to take the SAT and ACT exams at least twice during their Junior year and once during their Senior year.  Students are also required to take the PLAN (ACT) and the PSAT (SAT) during their Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years to help them practice taking the test and to help the school evaluate their progress.
