Part of school life in Texas is the state required health screenings for students.
· All "New to DLS" students are required to have a vision check, hearing check, and a diabetes skin-fold check done.
· All 9th graders are required to have a scoliosis* test and a diabetes test done. (If you are a new 9th grader, you are having all 4 tests done.)
These tests are mandated by the state and are required for continued enrollment at DLS.
DLS has a pediatric nurse coming on October 23rd to conduct these prescribed tests. She will conduct all tests privately on campus during the school day.
All students who need to have these tests done will be billed $15 to pay for the nurse's services.
Parents have the option to provide proof that these tests were completed through their own physicians. If this is the case, please send that information to the school office before Wed Oct 23rd. Otherwise, DLS will have the student take these tests at this time.
Students who wear glasses or contacts should be sure to bring them to school on Oct 23rd, 2019.
If you have questions, please feel free to call Mrs. Hunt, the school secretary at 214-349-8912.
* The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Specially trained screeners will look at your child's back while he/she stand and then bends forward. Students should wear or bring shorts to school for the exam. All students must remove their shirt for this exam. For this reason, we request that girls wear a halter top, tube top, sports bra, or a two-piece swimsuit underneath their shirt on exam day. Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow-up is necessary.
